In the Dark
An action made before getting any more information that you would normally
get – being first to act and checking before the flop hits the board
is checking “in the dark”
Dead Man's Hand
A pair of eights and a pair of Aces – the last card is irrelevant
– Said to be the hand that Wild BIllHickock was holding when he
was shot dead in 1876.
Deal
To distribute cards to players in accordance with the rules of the game
being played.
Dealer
1. The person who is actually dealing the cards.
2. The who is last to act after each round of betting – in a casino
or online, this person doesn’t physically deal any cards.
Deuce
the card that comes between an ace and a three
Discard
To get rid of cards that were in play - “Dave decided his 2,7 wasn’t
worth playing and discarded is hand.
Dominated Hand
A hand thats unlikely to win a showdown against another hand at the table.
This is especially true if the two hands have a card in common –
AK is said to have AQ “dominated”
Door Card
The door card is the first card dealt on the flop in holdem.
Double Up
If you bet all of your chips on a hand against an opponent, who has an
equal or larger chip stack than you, and you win this hand – you
will double your chipstack.
Down Card
A card that is dealt facedown
Draw/Drawing Hand
A hand that isn’t yet complete (like a straight or a flush) and
needs one or more cards to complete, usually to the best hand –
“Michael needed one more diamond to complete his flush draw”
Drawing Dead
When the next card/s to come are irrelevant because there is no way that
you can beat your opponents hand.
Drawing Live
The opposite to drawing dead – there are still live cards in the
deck that can improve your hand to the best at the table.
Drawing Thin
You’re not completely drawing dead, but the chances of improving
your hand are very slim – Putting yourself in a position where only
1 or 2 cards will improve your hand is said to be drawing thin. |
