Off Suit
Cards of different suits – if you had a 10 of spades and a Jack of diamonds, you would have a Jack ten off suit.

Open/Opening
The player who bets first is opening the pot.

Open Ended Straight Draw
This is where you flop four cards to the straight and can improve your hand with the cards on either end of the straight – ie – 7,8,9,10 is an open ended straight draw, because either the 6 or the jack will give you the straight. These are the best possible straight draws to bet into because there are still 8 cards left in the deck that can help you.

Outs
The cards left in the deck that can help you improve your hand – if you were on a flush draw with the 4,8,J, A of hearts, you would need 1 more heart to complete your flush. There are 9 more hearts in the deck, so you have 9 outs.

Outside Straight Draw
An outside straight draw, also known as an up and down straight draw or an open ended straight draw, is a hand with four of the five needed cards in sequence (and could be completed on either end) that may improve to a straight – ie - x-9-8-7-6-x.

Over Bet
Where you make a bet that is larger than the size of the pot.

Over Card
1. When you talk about a card with a higher rank than another card, this higher ranked card is an over card – ie – if you held ace jack and the flop came 2,9,7 – you would have 2 over cards.

Over Pair
You would have an over pair if you had a pair that is higher than someone elses – Dave had a pair of eights, but Jim had an over pair with his pair of jacks.
